On the Regulatory Environment
The Research-Use-Only
Channel Exists for a Reason.
In September 2023, the FDA added 17 peptides — including BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-Cu, Epitalon, and Thymosin Alpha-1 — to its Category 2 Bulk Drug Substance list, prohibiting compounding pharmacies from providing these compounds for human use.
The research community's response is well-documented, and the timing — FDA restriction of unpatented peptides followed by approval of patent-protected peptide-based pharmaceuticals from major drug manufacturers — generated substantial scrutiny.
We don't editorialize on this. The facts are publicly available to anyone who reads the regulatory filings and follows the patent literature.
What we do acknowledge: the research-use-only channel is not a workaround. It is the legally recognized framework under which unpatented research chemicals are made available to qualified researchers. Kern operates squarely within it. All products are sold strictly for in vitro and laboratory research purposes. No medical claims are made. No human use is implied or advised.
