Acetylated and amidated form of Epitalon for enhanced stability. Studied for telomere elongation and antioxidant effects.
Origin
N-Acetyl Epitalon Amidate is a chemically modified form of the Epitalon tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) developed to improve metabolic stability. The N-terminal acetylation and C-terminal amidation protect the peptide from exopeptidase degradation, extending its effective half-life in biological systems.
Research Lineage
This modified form builds on the extensive Epitalon research by Khavinson and colleagues at the Saint Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. The chemical modifications represent a standard medicinal chemistry approach to improving peptide pharmacokinetics without altering the core bioactive sequence.
Mechanism of Action
The mechanism is expected to parallel that of unmodified Epitalon — activation of telomerase expression and modulation of melatonin synthesis — with improved bioavailability due to resistance to aminopeptidase and carboxypeptidase degradation. The acetyl and amide caps do not alter the side chain interactions responsible for biological activity.
Structural Notes
Modified tetrapeptide. Sequence: Ac-Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly-NH2. Molecular weight: 431.40 Da. N-acetylated, C-amidated.
